Cable Installation & Support
This program is designed to carry out real-time data acquisition for Submarine Cable Installation (Surface Lay and Ploughing) and Repair/Maintenance, Plough/Burial Assessment Surveys (PAS/BAS), Route Clearance, Pre-Lay Grapnel (PLGR), Post Lay Inspection and Burial (PLIB), Shore-end and MOD operations.
Tower has been involved with Global Marine Systems Ltd. and its predecessors since early 1995, to supply software, personnel, surveyor and Officer training, and support. The management and support team at Tower has had many years experience in the industry, ensuring that the best possible service is provided. The support, both offshore and onshore, covers cable operation procedures and survey advice, as well as support for the software.
In addition to the standard features, this program has the following
capabilities:
• Totally user configurable I/O’s (Input/Outputs), plus existing I/O’s for all of the following
• Ploughs/ ROV’s/Seabed tractors/Sleds (SMD, Perry Slingsby vehicles/interface units etc.) for bi-directional data flow of navigation (USBL position, KP and DCC and offsets) burial depth, tensions, tow forces, heading, depth, skid heights and all other vehicle data.
• Cable Management Systems (GMSL Navslack, SMD Slack etc) for bi-directional flow of navigation data and cable engine/slack data.
• Cable Lay Monitoring Systems (ie. Makai etc.).
• Cable Data Logging Systems (ie. NEC Seagull, NSCADA etc.).
• Underwater Sensors (ie. CPT Rigs – Cone Penetration Test systems, TSS 340 Cabletracker/TSS350 Pipetracker, vehicle bathy altimeter, pitch and roll, video overlays etc.
• Standard Survey equipment (ie. DGPS/surface navigation, survey and deepwater echosounders, gyros, various USBL/HPR systems.
• DP Output (if required).
• On screen generation of grap lines/drives, cable route deviations
and electroding lines via the mouse cursor.
• Option for Network protocol (TCP/IP and UDP) for transfer of navigation/cable data from Tower system to other cable suites.
• USBL/HPR Calibration and post processing facility, with step by step procedures.
• Manual layback facility for periods of poor HPR data with various layback reference options for plough and/or ROV positioning.
• Moving target or ‘Rabbit’, for maintaining a constant vessel speed during surface lay operations when out of DP and in manual joystick, in defined areas along the route, to aid cable slack control.
• Cable eventing facility for Repeaters, Joint Housings/Boxes, Transitions, Branching Units, Alter Courses, Final Splices, Point on Line etc. and for daily diaried events such as cable pick ups/pay outs, renders, navigation events etc.
• Evented data saved with project parameter data for future benefit of repair/maintenance vessels, as repair locations are often re-visited.
• All online data acquisition in true calculations using rhumb lines. Data entry by geographical (Latitude and Longitude) as well as grid (Eastings and Northings) coordinates. Selectable Latitude and Longitude data entry depending on client RPL (Route Position List) format.
• Option to automatically select next A/C target or A/C’s from the current waypoint file.
• Option for route corridor GeoTiffs to be displayed online for PLIB and ploughing operations (mosaicing of side scan sonar data/records from the cable pre-route survey).
• RPL (Route Position List) importing routines (from Microsoft Excel, csv and txt file formats) to create online KP line/cable route.
• Automatic generation of cable bodies and route positions as waypoints, and automatic generation of online charts along the cable route.
• Facility to create/compile the following cable/route engineering documentation:
• Route Position Lists (RPL).
• Straight Line Diagrams (SLD).
• Splice Sheets.
